National Fire Fighters Football Representative
In the planned matches, except for the primary needs on duty and in according to logistic needs, the National Fire Fighters football representative caps the staff from all Italian provincial commands, who has attracted a lot of attention during Italian football and five-a-side championships.
It is worth a mention the provision of 25-01-2008 that was the formal act thanks to which the national fire fighters football representative of Rome received an awaited recognition for the work done up to date: in fact, in march 2003 the Fire Fighters Sport Activities Office, take the chance to meet the Italian Parlamentary representative set up its own representative team. So start the adventure of the National Fire Fighters Football Representative ¿ roman selection.
The denomination ¿Roman Selection¿ derives from the fact that, at least initially, in order to overcome the inevitable organizational and logistical problems, it was considered appropriate to limit this initiative in Rome, also continuing to provide to the national fire fighters the same visibility and the same return on the image that other public structures and other national forces had already obtained through similar initiatives.
During these years of activity the football team has played a great deal of matches with teams of other national forces ( Guardia di finanza, Carabinieri, Forestry Corps, State Police, Penitentiary Police, Navy, Civil Protection, etc.), with professional association teams and other groups which have as their primary purpose the fund-raising for humanitarian and charitable initiatives such as: Italian National Restaurateurs Team, Italian National Correspondent for Solidarity Team (broadcast journalist), Italian National Actors Team, Italian National VIP TV Team, Italian National Equestrian Team. It is important to underline that all matches have been played by our athletes with the right spirit, honouring the sports engagements with integrity and fairness and keeping up the name of the National Fire Fighters.
In according to these conditions, in December 2006 the National Fire Fighters Football Representative won the first edition of the ¿city of Rome in uniform¿ tournament, which was attended by: Fire Fighters, Navy, Army, Guardia di Finanza, Carabinieri, Italian air Force, Penitentiary Police and Municipal Police. In addition, in confirmation to the spirit with which our athletes faced this competitive engagement, in the same tournament they also won the Discipline Cup, in order to show how it is possible ¿ and essential for us ¿ to combine the competitive results with fair play.
In 2007, during the 2nd edition of "City of Rome in uniform", the National fire fighters football team honorably defended the title won in 2006, finishing in 2nd place after a hard final fight against the Navy team, decided by penalties. On April 27th and 28th,2007 in New York an International Football Tournament was played. National fire fighters football team and State Police from Italy, Germany, England, Holland, Canada and United States participated to this tournament, in order to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of FDNY Soccer Team and to commemorate the firefighter Sergio Villanueva and other 342 firefighters who died on September 11th 2001 because of World Trade Center Attack. The Fire Fighters team won the prestigious international tournament beating by penalties the Fire Department Team of New York. And, in order to go out greatly the season, the Fire Fighters team won the tournament ¿Olympic Stadium¿ initially reserved to the representatives of all the operators of Olympic Stadium security of Rome.
In June 2008, the National Fire Fighters Football team won the ¿Villa Omnia¿ joint trophy (which took place in Ardea); then in July it won the ¿Olympic Stadium¿ tournament, (repeating the success of the previous year in Rome¿s Olympic Stadium); and finally, in October, it won the 3rd edition of Memorial ¿Claudio Emili¿ memorial ( in Frascati).
In 2009, the National Fire Fighters Football team won the 3rd edition of ¿City of Rome in uniform¿ tournament, one of the four tournament which is valid for Provincial Stage of AICS Italian Football Amateur Championship. Later it also dominated the four-teams finals for the regional title, also winning in this case and so qualifying for the national stage.
In June, in Cervia Cesenatico, the finals of the AICS Italian Football Amateur Championship took place and the National Fire Fighters football team made a good impression on the national stage: in fact, after playing four hard matches in order to reach finals, it lost against the Army, which won the title only thanks to the fatal penalties. So National Fire Fighters football team won the place of honor and the title of AICS Italian Amateur First Runner-up.
In may 2010, the National Fire Fighters football team-Roman Selection- won the 13th edition of the Regional Football Tournament ¿ Provincial Stage AICS Italian Football Amateur Championship.
The 2011 has been a golden year for the National Fire Fighters football team, because ¿ as two years ago ¿ after winning the 14th edition of the Regional football tournament, it won the titles of Provincial and Regional Champion of AICS, qualifying for the National Stage, that has taken place on may in Cervia ¿ Milano Marittima. This time our players didn¿t miss the opportunity and at the end of a very hard tournament they won the title of AICS Italian Amateur Champions.
It is our belief that, through these sporting events, we can further promote and strengthen the positive image that the Fire Fighters team and the operators have already in public opinion, thanks to the engagement, courage and abnegation showed by this men in every intervention for which they are called, from a simple road accident to great natural disaster.
